REVIEW: Beauty Expo 2015 in Malaysia

The long awaited beautyexpo’15 finally happened, and Beauty Guide joined in on its launch to give you the full account. So many things to tell about this amazing and super-fun event, we don’t even know where to begin!

Welcome speech and performance

During the big launch on Friday 16 October 2015, we were warmly welcomed in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre by the welcoming committee and presented with our very own media passes. After each of us were shown to our seats in front of beautifully arranged stage, the emcees kicked off the event with a highly entertaining and well-choreographed samba dance at 11:00 am by four lovely girls.

Inspiring speeches by VIPs

The colourful entertainment was followed by three motivating speeches by the esteemed Chief Executive Officer of Interexpo (M) Sdn Bhd, Mr Mak Weng Kit, Mr M. Gandhi, Managing Director of UBM Asia, and the third and final speech was delivered by Ybhg Dato’ Dzulkifli Mahmud, the Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

The Opening Ceremony was concluded by the presentation of Tokens of Appreciation to the participating associations including Asia Pacific Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association (APHCA), The Association of Malaysian Spas (AMSPA), The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association of Malaysia (CTFA), Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Spa & Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS), The SME International Trade Association of Malaysia (SMITA). The ceremony was conducted and presented by Dato' Dzulkifli Mahmud, which was followed by a photo session of all the VIPs.

It was certainly an impressive and a stirring sight, seeing all these people who were responsible to the contribution of the rise of the beauty and wellness industry in Malaysia. Just imagine how much more the industry in our country will grow with the continual effort of these associations! It’s really a very exciting time for the beauty and wellness industry in Malaysia.

Time to explore the exhibition!

There were five halls, each with its own category which are Beauty salon, Spa & Wellness, Hair Products & Equipment, Makeup & Education, Nail products & Tools, and AES Expo.

There were over 500 international exhibitors from more than twelve countries! These exhibitors were not only the big brands, but also the newcomers in the beauty and wellness industry who offer amazing and high quality services and products.

Everywhere we walked, we were offered to stop and look at their products, test their many products and services, given samples and brochures, and introduced to some of the latest technologies and trends in beauty and wellness. We marvelled at the sheer size and growth of the beauty and wellness industry, there’s always a new thing to discover at each of the hundreds of exhibitors! This include new techniques, machines, and beauty equipment from all over the world that are all specifically designed to help you achieve the look that you’ve always dreamed of.

Activities during the exhibition

Other than the fascinating exhibitors, there were plenty of interesting shows, demonstrations and competitions to watch at the Main Stage area to entertain us. The most memorable show to us was the makeover session by Beaulogy Sdn Bhd. The way they completely transformed their volunteers was mind-blowing! You’ll have to see it to believe it.

The stage is also where the exhibitors took the opportunity to showcase their latest collections and share their creativity that captivated us all. The highlight of the day was the Asia Pacific National Hair & MakeUp Competition, hosted by The Asia Pacific Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association (APHCA) with over 18 participating countries. Hairdressers and makeup artists from around the world took part in this exclusive event to display their skills and creativity that impressed their viewers. We learned plenty of the latest trends in hairstyles and makeup from this jaw-dropping contest.

Furthermore, on Saturday 17th of October beautyexpo’s new charitable initiative “BEAUTY WITH A SOUL” took place. The event was the Power Cut Marathon, ran by 7 volunteer professional stylists offering a hair trim in under 20 minutes for a fee of minimum RM20. As part of their commitment to the community, all proceeds will go to charity!

It is clear that the beautyexpo will continue to grow and improve every year, and we simply can’t wait for the next one. We hope you enjoyed the exhibition as much as we did!
