Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells, revealing softer, smoother, and in most cases, fairer skin beneath all of the accumulated dirt and grime from our daily life activities. Of course, the best way to exfoliate is by scrubbing, and there are plenty of facial and body scrubs available in stores.
But why spend your cash on chemical-laden products when you can make them at home - without chemicals or preservatives – with all the natural ingredients that can be found easily in your kitchen? Here are some easy recipes for scrubs that are so good you’ll want to lick them!
Raw honey, coconut oil and sugar face scrub
Honey is not only good as sugar substitute, it has excellent moisturising properties and antimicrobial properties that helps to keep your face soft and clear of acne. It also helps to brighten up your skin tone and tighten up pores. Coconut oil is a great source of antioxidants, and help moisturise, reduce wrinkles forming and combat eczema and psoriasis.
How to make this delicious skin scrub? Simply combine raw honey, virgin coconut oil and sugar in a bowl and mix it well. Apply the mixture to your face and scrub in a gentle, circular motion and repeat it on a weekly basis. Enjoy soft, radiant and glowing skin after your exfoliation!
Chocolate coconut sugar body scrub
Yes. You read that right. CHOCOLATE body scrub. Cocoa powder is the magic ingredient to our favourite, sinful dessert – but it is also a powerful antioxidant and a great source of vitamin E, which helps to repair damaged skin, assist with skin’s UV absorption, improve complexion and is a great moisturiser for healthy and hydrated skin.
Mix a cup of brown sugar, half a cup of solid coconut oil, a quarter cup of almond oil (optional), two to three tablespoons of pure cocoa powder, and a few drops of vanilla essence for a tub of heavenly, delicious, and irresistible body scrub. The only challenge is not to eat it as you buff your skin in the shower.
Edible fruits-and-spices lip scrub
No joke, this brilliant lip scrub recipe will make you want to raid your kitchen and kill two birds with one stone – get soft, kissable puckers and enjoy some sweet, fruity treats. Dry, dark and chapped lips are simply a no-go when you’re trying to look good for your other half – or even for yourself.
To prepare this delicious and lip-smacking scrub for your puckers, just mix a 1:1 ratio of virgin coconut oil and brown sugar with chopped herbs and fruits of your choice, or available in your kitchen. You can choose from chopped dried rosemary or thyme, (chopped dried mixed herbs works well too) grated nutmeg or cinnamon, or pound clove for herbs, and add any chopped dried fruits (our favourite is dried cranberry) to the mixture.
Coffee and oatmeal foot scrub
You might want to think twice before you dump your ground coffee after breakfast, because it makes a terrific foot scrub that is just great for cracked and dry heels. It also has antimicrobial properties that help to reduce foot odour, and let’s be honest, that is a major plus for most of us.
Oatmeal helps to gently cleanse your skin and lock in moisture, giving you baby-smooth feet you can be proud of. Just mix equal amount of ground coffee and ground oatmeal with the desired amount of sea salt (Epsom salt is better, if you have that handy), olive oil, and a few drops of lavender oil (if you have any) for a calming and soothing foot scrub.
